God the Father did not die, God the Son does not impute, and God the Spirit is not going to make it real

November 12, 2020

It is not our faith that imputes. It is God the Father who imputes.

I Corinthians 1: 2 8 God has chosen .. 30  It is from God the Father that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,

I don’t think that this text means that “Christ is the source of your life in Christ” or that “the Spirit is the source of your life in Christ”. It is God the Father who calls. It is God the Father who declares just those who were guilty. It is God the Father who imputes….

1. The Father is God.
2. The Son is God.
3. The Holy Spirit is God.
4. The Father is not the Son.
5. The Son is not the Holy Spirit.
6. The Holy Spirit is not the Father.
7. There is Only One God.

John 5: 21 Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son also gives life to anyone the Son wants to give life to. 22 The Father, in fact, judges no one but has given all judgment to the Son….

John 5: 24 Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has lasting life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life. 25 “I assure you: An hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, so also the Father has
granted to the Son to have life in Himself. 27 The Father has granted the Son the right to pass judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

Matthew 11: 27 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal the Father.

The Father does not do everything the Son does. The Son does not do everything the Father doe . The Holy Spirit does not do everything that the Father and the Son do.

Romans 1: 4 Jesus Christ our Lord,  a descendant of David, has been declared to be the powerful Son of God by the resurrection from the dead according to the Spirit of holiness.

2 Corinthians 5: 19 In Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them

Romans 4:16 The promise is through faith, in order that it be according to grace.
Romans 4:24-25 “Christ’s death will be counted to us who believe in Him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was handed over because of our trespasses and raised up because of our justification.

God the Father imputes Christ’s death in time to individuals for whom Christ died.
God the Son does not impute God the Son’s death to us.
God the Father does not impute God the Father’s death to us.
God the Father did not die.

In Christ, God the Father was reconciling the word. In Christ, God the Father was and is and will be “not counting their trespasses against them.”

John 16: 8 When the Holy Spirit comes, the Holy Spirit will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: 9 About sin, the Holy Spirit will convict because they do not believe in Me. 10 About righteousness, the Holy Spirit will convict because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me. 11 About judgment, the Holy Spirit will convict because the ruler of this world has been judged.

When God imputes (legally transfers) Christ’s death to a person for whom Christ died, then God imputes (declares) that person really justified before God.  God counts the one who believes the gospel as justified before God. God did not count that person’s faith to be the same as (or equivalent to) Christ’s death.  That person’s faith is a result of Christ’s death for that person. I Peter 1: 18 You  were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of an unblemished
and spotless lamb. 20 Christ was foreknown before the foundation of
the world but was revealed in these last times for YOU WHO THROUGH HIM BELIEVE in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so
that YOUR FAITH  and hope are in God.

Romans 3: 26 God presented Christ Jesus  as a propitiation through faith in His blood, to demonstrate God’s righteousness at the present TIME, in order that God would be righteous and DECLARE righteous the one who has FAITH IN Jesus.

Romans 3: 27 Where then is boasting? Boasting is excluded….A person is justified through  faith apart from the works of law. 31 Do we CANCEL any or lass law through faith? Absolutely not! On the contrary, we uphold law

Romans 4: 4 To the one who works, pay is not considered  a gift but as something owed. 5 But the one who BELIEVES ON HIM  who DECLARES the  UNGODLY  to be RIGHTEOUS is NOT THE ONE WHO WORKS

God justifies the ungodly. Abraham was ungodly when God justified Abraham

Romans 4: 2 If Abraham had been justified through works, Abraham had something to brag about.   But Abraham was a person who believed on HIM  who declares the  UNGODLY  to be justified

Romans 4:11 Abraham had  righteousness through faith while Abraham was still uncircumcised.

Galatians 2: 1 9  Through the law I died to the law, in order to  live
for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live,
but Christ lives with regard to me. The life I NOW LIFE  in the body,
I LIVE BY FAITH IN  the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself FOR
ME. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness comes
through (my law-keeping)  then Christ died for nothing.

Matthew 16: 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny HIMSELF , take up HIS cross, and follow me.  25 For whoever wants to save HIS LIFE  will lose HIS LIFE, but whoever loses his life because of me will find HIS LIFE 26 For what will it benefit someone if he gains the whole world yet loses HIS LIFE? Or what will anyone give in exchange for HIS LIFE?

Paul is not dead. Paul has found his life, by means of God the Father’s identification and imputation of Christ’s death as Paul’s death.

Galatians 1: 15 But God, who from my mother’s womb set me apart
and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me

Galatians 1: 23 They kept hearing, “He who formerly persecuted us now
preaches the faith he once tried to destroy.” 24 And they glorified

In the context of Galatians 2:20-21, there is plenty explanation about both Christ’s atonement and Paul’s justification. Galatians 2: 16 No one is justified through works  but through faith in Jesus Christ.  And we have believed in Christ Jesus in order that we be justified through faith in Christ and not by works, because by works no human being will be justified

In Galatians 2:20, Paul is not saying that he is dead. Paul has been crucified with Christ (Gal 2:19), because Christ has died in Paul’s place. Christ bore penal justice instead of Paul bearing the curse. (Galatians 3:13).

God the Father did not bear Paul’s guilt. God the Holy Spirit did not bear Paul’s guilt. Paul himself bore Paul’s guilt until God the Father imputed the death of God the Son to Paul.

God the Son bore Paul’s guilt and died because of Paul’s guilt. God the Son no longer bears Paul’s guilt. Now that the death of God the Son has been imputed by God the Father to Paul, Paul also no longer bears that guilt.

Romans 16: 7 Greet Andronicus and Junia– they were also in Christ before me.

Romans 16: 25 Now to Him who is able to STRENGTHEN you according to my gospel and the proclamation about Jesus Christ, according to the
revelation of the mystery kept hidden for lasting ages past 26 but
now revealed and made known through the prophetic Scriptures,
according to the command of the  lasting God to advance the OBEDIENCE

Christ being in us is not the same reality as us being in Christ, and
the Apostle Paul does not say that all the other elect are born again at the same time. Some of the elect were “in Him” before Paul was “in Him”. Some of the elect were justified before God before Paul was justified before God.

Romans 1: 18 God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all
godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness
suppress the truth, 19 since what can be known about God is evident
among them, because God has shown it to them. 20  God’s  invisible
attributes, that is, God’s lasting power and divine nature, have been
clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through
what  God has made. As a result, humans  are without excuse.”

I Corinthians 2:12 We have not received the spirit of the world. We have received the Spirit who comes from God, in order that we understand what has been freely given to us by God.

I Corinthians 2: 14 The natural person does not receive what comes from
God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him. The natural person is NOT ABLE to understand it

The crucifixion of the “old man” refers to a definitive break with the
past in Adam and is something God declares to be true of the elect
only when God justifies them by imputation. God transfers the justified
elect from Adam to Christ

Romans 6: 6 We know that our old self was crucified with Christ in order
that…we no longer be enslaved to sin, because a person who has died
is justified from sin.

God the Son as the elect person was always loved by God the Father.

God the Son as representative of elect sinners was once under the wrath of God. God the Son was imputed with the guilt of Paul the apostle.

Romans 6: 9-10 Christ, having been raised from the dead, will not die
again. Death NO LONGER rules over Christ . 10 Christ DIED TO SIN once
for all time

God’s purpose was for Christ to obtain righteousness. That does not
mean that the righteousness always timelessly existed.

If God does not see the difference between God’s purpose and what
God has in time brought in by Christ’s death as fulfillment of that
purpose, why make Romans 6 about regeneration? God DOES see the difference between God’s purpose and what God has in time brought in by Christ’s death. Romans 6 is about Christ under law in history accomplishing

Some preachers claim falsely that God only elects people because they are
already imputed with Christ’s death. But God’s election in Christ was NOT based on Christ having died for some sinners. God the Son died only for those sinners God the Father elected in God the Son. Election is God’s love, and God’s love is not a result of justification but the cause for the death of God the Son.

If we were always justified and never condemned, then we never did become the righteousness of God in Christ.
If we were always the righteousness of God in Christ, then we never
had any guilt for our sins. If we never had any guilt for our sins, then  God the Father never imputed any guilt to God the Son who did not know sin.

Romans 6: 17 But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were transferred.

20  When you were free from submission to righteousness the fruit of those things was death. 22 But NOW , since you HAVE BEEN liberated from sin and have become enslaved to God,  the end is lasting life. 23 Because the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is lasting life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
