Not only believing in Jesus but living by faith in Jesus

October 4, 2020

Philippians 3: 12 Not that I have already reached the goal or am already fully mature, but I make every effort to take hold of the goal because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. 13… Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, 14 I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:16 we should live up to whatever truth we have attained…. 18 For I say again with tears, that many LIVE AS ENEMIES OF THE CROSS of Christ.

Romans 1: 17 The righteous will LIVE BY faith.

Philippians 1: 21 Living is Christ.
Philippians 1:27  Live your life in keeping with the gospel of Christ

Philippians 3: 18 I say with tears, that many LIVE as enemies of the
cross of Christ.

Galatians 2: 19 I no longer live, but Christ lives with regard to me .
The life I now live in the body, I LIVE BY FAITH IN the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 5: 16 LIVE BY the Spirit and you will not carry out the
desire of the flesh.

Matthew 4: 5 Then the Devil took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple,
6 and said to Jesus, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.
For it is written: God will give the angels orders concerning you,
and the angels will support you with their hands
in order  that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”

7 Jesus told the Devil, “It is also written: Do not test the Lord your God

Mark 14: 36 And Jesus said, “Abba, Father! Take this cup away from Me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

Philippians 4: 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I do seek the PROFIT THAT IS INCREASING TO YOUR ACCOUNT 18 I have received everything in abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided—a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

Matthew 5: 3 But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 in order that your giving be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you

Notice words like “rewards” and “profit” and “your account”. Friendship with the God who raised Jesus from the dead is “giving and receiving”. Our confidence still grows in Christ Jesus

My dying as a martyr and then being raised from the death when Jesus comes could be “gain” for Jesus. But the apostle Paul is not Kantian (no self, no motives allowed) . Paul does not pretend not to think about what is also gain for Paul.

Philippians 3:8 —I consider everything to be a loss in view of the gain of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Christ I consider all things garbage in order to gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, having a righteousness that is through faith

I John 2: 14 I have written to you, fathers,
because you have come to know
the One who is from the beginning.

I have written to you young and strong
because God’s word remains in you,
and you have had victory over the evil one.

15 Do not love the world or the things that belong to the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him. 16 For everything that belongs to the world—the pride of the visible —is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does God’s will remains

Philippians 3: 20 My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be
ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all boldness,
Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether BY LIFE or by death.

But aren’t these other professing Christians “regarded as believers”  (by whom? by the world?) The passive voice tries to pretend that some speak for all and that “anti-politics” is apolitical when it supports minimalism and
the status quo.

Hauerwas—They tell me that you are the King of Jews. Is that true?”
Pilate’s question is meant to see if Jesus is “political.” Jesus
responds by asking if Pilate came up with such a view on his own or
did others tell him such was the case. “I am not a Jew, am I?” replies
Pilate.. “If my kingdom were FROM this world, my followers would be
fighting to keep me from being handed over. ” This is a response used
often to deny that Jesus was political. But Pilate rightly saw that
Jesus’ denial that his kingship was not of this world is not the
denial that Jesus is king. Jesus denied that his kingdom was just
another form of Rome.

I Corinthians 15: 15  We have testified about God that God raised up
Christ—If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless and you
are still in your sins. 18  If Christ has not been raised,  those who
have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
