The Lord Has Told You What is Good—Not This For That

June 17, 2020

Micah 6:8 The Lord has told you what is good
and what it is the Lord requires of you:
to act justly,
to love faithfulness,
and to walk humbly with your God.

I Peter 3: 10 The one who wants to love life
and to see good days
must keep their tongues from speaking lies
11 The one who wants to love life must turn away from evil
must do what is good. and must seek peace and pursue peace.

2 Peter 3: 14 Therefore, friends, while you wait for these things, make EVERY EFFORT to be FOUND AT PEACE with HIM without spot or blemish.

Not this for that
in antithesis to “this for that”
not having this in order to be having that

Philippians 3: 8 Because of Christ I have suffered the LOSS OF THINGS and impute those things to be waste, in order that I gain Christ 9 and be FOUND in Him, NOT HAVING a righteousness from my own obeying the law, but HAVING A RIGHTEOUSNESS that is THROUGH FAITH IN Christ….10 My goal is to know Christ and the power of Christ’s resurrection and the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings, being conformed to Christ’s death, 11 in hope that I will somehow reach the RESURRECTION FROM AMONG THE DEAD. 12 Not that I have already reached the goal or am already fully mature, but I make EVERY EFFORT to take hold of the goal because I also HAVE BEEN taken hold of by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4: 3 Help my coworkers (whose names are in the book of life). 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. 5 Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 The peace of God will guard your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you. I do not give peace to you as
the world gives peace. . Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.

Romans 15: 13 The God of hope fills you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him in order that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22 The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faith

James 3: 16 Where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every kind of evil. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving and gentle… The fruit of
righteousness is sown in peace by those who cultivate peace.

1 Corinthians 15:15- – We would be found to be false witnesses about God, because we have testified about God that God raised up Christ—whom God did not raise up if in fact the dead are not raised.

2 Corinthians 5:2 we groan in this body, desiring to put on our
dwelling FROM heaven 3 And when we are clothed,we will not be FOUND naked. 4 we do not want to be unclothed but clothed, in order for mortality to be swallowed up by immortality

Revelation 20 :11 Then I saw a great white throne and One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was FOUND for them. 12 I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. ANOTHER BOOK was opened, which is the book of life… 14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death… anyone NOT FOUND written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire

Time Demands the Patience of the Saints, Christ’s Kingdom in This World

June 16, 2020

Revelation 13: 9 They will worship the beast, everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered.
Revelation 13: 10 If anyone is destined for captivity,
into captivity they go.
If anyone is to be killed with a sword,
with a sword they will be killed.
This demands the patience and faith of the saints.

Romans 9: 22 What if God, desiring to display God’s wrath and to make God’s power known, endured with much patience objects of wrath ready for destruction? 23 And what if God did this to make known the riches of His glory on objects of mercy?

David Hart–Christ’s kingdom not of the world but nevertheless present in this world is a kind of a contrary and a secret history, with a radically different understanding of society and property (torture, war, death penalty) (Theological Territories, 328)

I Peter 3: 20 God PATIENTLY WAITED in the days of Noah while an ark
was being prepared. In the ark a few were saved through water.

God did not do everything at the same time God decided to do everything. Therefore WE ourselves are to wait with eager anticipation.

2 Peter 3: 4 Scoffers will say, “Where is the promise of the Lord’s coming? Ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they willfully forget that long ago the heavens and the earth were brought about from water and through water by the word of God. Through these waters the world of that time perished when it was flooded. By the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction.

The Lord does not delay the Lord’s promise,  but is patient with you, not wanting any of you to perish but all of you to come to repentance. 10 But the Day of the Lord will come….

11 Since ALL THESE things are to be destroyed in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness 12 as you WAIT FOR and EARNESTLY DESIRE the coming of the day of the Lord.

13. Based on God’s promise, we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell. 14 Therefore, dear friends, while you wait, make EVERY EFFORT to be found at peace with God without spot or blemish. 15  REGARD THE PATIENCE OF OUR LORD AS OPPORTUNITY FOR SALVATION ( just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him. 16 Paul speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist Paul’s letters to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.)

Philippians 3: 20 Our citizenship is from heaven. FROM HEAVEN we eagerly WAIT for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. 21 When He comes, Jesus will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of His glorious body, by the power that enables Him to subject everything to Himself.

Romans 8: 19 The creation eagerly waits with anticipation for God’s children to be revealed.

Romans 8: 23 We groan within ourselves, eagerly WAITING for adoption, the redemption of our bodies…..25 we hope for what we do not see. We eagerly WAIT with patience.

Hebrew 9: 28 Christ, having been offered once for all time to
bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sins,
but to bring salvation to those who are WAITING for Him.

Galatians 5: 4 You who are trying to be justified by your own law
keeping are alienated from Christ. you have fallen from grace. 5 For through the Holy Spirit, by faith, we eagerly WAIT for the hope of righteousness.

Christ’s death as satisfaction of law (not as cancellation of law, not as arbitrary adjustment of law) is our hope because Christ’s death is the righteousness which will give us the results for which we hope. Christ’s death removes sins imputed to Christ, and Christ’s death imputed by God to the elect causes them to believe the gospel through faith and God justifies them before God and declares them to be just.

“Waiting for the hope of righteousness” does not mean that we now hope one day to be counted righteous or to become justified. “Waiting for the hope of righteousness” means that we hope for future results (Christ’s second coming, our resurrection) because we are already now counted righteous.

On resurrection day, we won’t be hoping to be justified at some future judgment— our justification will already be visible in our future resurrection.

Hebrews 10: 34 For you accepted with joy the confiscation of your possessions, knowing that you yourselves have a better and enduring possession. 35 So do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 Because you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you receive what was promised.
37 For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.
38 My righteous one will live by faith.
I have no pleasure in those who draw back
39 We are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and obtain life.

Hebrews 11: 37 They were stoned, they were sawed in two, they died by the sword, they wandered about in ANIMAL SKINS, destitute, and mistreated. 38 The world was not worthy of them. They wandered without their own property in deserts and on mountains, hiding in holes in the ground. 39 All these were justified through their faith, but they did NOT receive what was promised, 40 because God had provided something better for US, so that THEY would not be made perfect without US.

I Corinthians 15: 23 But each in their own order. Christ the first fruits; afterward, at Christ’s coming, those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when Christ hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when He abolishes all rule and all authority and power. 25 For Christ must reign until He puts all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy to be abolished is death.

I Corinthians 15: We will not all fall asleep,
but we will all be changed,
52 in a moment, in the blink of an eye,
at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound,
and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
and we will be changed.
53 The corruptible must be clothed
with incorruptibility,
and the mortal must be clothed with immortality.
15: 58 THEREFORE be steadfast, stable, always glorying (boasting) in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Hebrew 9: 28 so also Christ , having been offered once for all time to
bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sins,
but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

John 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 The Word was with God in the beginning.
3 All things were created through the Word,
and apart from the Word not one thing was created
that has been created

I John 1: 1 What was from the beginning,
what we have heard,
what we have seen with our eyes,
what we have touched with our hands,
the Word of life

James 5 Come now, you rich people! Weep over the miseries that are
coming on you. 2 Your wealth is ruined….

James 5: 7 Therefore, Christ’s disciples, be PATIENT until the Lord’s
coming. See how the farmer WAITS for the fruit of the EARTH and is
patient until the late rains. 8 You also must be PATIENT

Revelation 1: 1 Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from
the dead and the ruler of the magistrates loves us and has set us
free from our sins by His blood….
7 Look! He is coming with the clouds,
and every eye will see Him….
This is certain. Amen.
8 “I am the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord God, “the One who
is, the One who was, the One who is coming.”
